Detailed Abilities can be found at: www.icy-veins.com/megaera-detailed-strategy-wow
Strategy Options
R - Red, G - Green, B - Blue
Option 1 - Ingore the Blue! - GRGRGRG
Tanks: 2
Healers: 3-4
Dps: 4-5
This strategy follows the idea that the Blue head's special ability Torrent of Ice is the most annoying ability of the encounter. Because it takes a person out of the fight for several seconds while they kite the beam. Plus, the trail it leaves takes up a large chunk of the room.
So the idea of this strategy is to completely ignore the Blue head and simply alternate killing the Green and Red heads as their special abilities do not take as much realestate and do not reduce dps as much.
The downside to this strategy is that there will be a lot of Cinders and Acid Rain being cast from the Red and Green heads. Which will put a large strain on the healers as there will be a lot of dispels and damage from the ae affect of Acid Rain.
Also, the blue head will continue to gain stacks of Hydra Frenzy each time another head is killed. As this approaches 80-120% haste on the blue head, the damage the head is putting out will also put a strain on the healers to keep a tank up in addition to everything else.
The benefits are that DPS can maximize their damage because they don't have to move as much except to avoid Acid Rain and the fire pools left by Cinders.
Hero?: This strat is probably the most painful during the 6th head phase as there will be 4 green heads up at the back firing acid rain. Combined with the 6th rampage (always the hardest hitting) and the overall raid healing needed will be highest here. As after you kill the 6th head (red) there will only be 3 green heads, and 4 red heads in the back. So hero at the start of the 6th head will help burn through this phase, thereby reducing raid damage.
Option 2 - Ignore the Green! - BRBRBRB
Tanks: 2
Healers: 3-4
Dps: 4-5
This strategy is very similiar to the GRGRGRG strategy except that instead of killing the Green head, the raid kills the Blue head. The idea behind this is that the Torrent of Ice is completely avoidable damage. Which is far far less damage than multiple green heads spitting Acid Rain at the raid.
The benefits to this strategy include a greatly reduced need for raid ae healing. The amount of dispels and healing required of Cinders remains the same, but that is a more manageable single target.
The downside is that as more blue heads are sent to the back, the more ice beams we have to deal with. And while these ice trails are removeable by anyone with Cinders. They can easily occupy multiple healers at the same time if the raid is unlucky.
Plus, the other downside is the green head will be the one to gain stacks of Hydra Frenzy, which if you combine with stacks of it's breath weapon Rot Armor which increases damage taken by 6% per stack, can start to be fairly painful. Requiring a lot of healing later in the fight, more so than a high stack blue head.
Hero?: During the 6th head phase, there will be 4 blue heads in the back using torrent. This will mean a lot of kiting during this head phase. As such here could be used on the 6th head or during the 6th rampage. Either way, it could be very likely that all healers are kiting torrent at this point thereby leaving tanks without proper healing. So it will be very random.
Option 3 - Split the Difference! - GRGBRGR or BRBGRBR
Also GRGRBRG or BRBRGRB
Tanks: 2
Healers: 2-3
Dps: 5-6
This strategy can be used with either of the first two strategies and basically involves not letting stacks of Hydra Frenzy get too high.
The concept here is that tank healing gets far tougher throughout the fight because whoever is tanking the head with 4-6 stacks of frenzy will be taking a lot of extra damage. Putting extra strain on the healers to keep the tanks up just to allow the rest of the raid to avoid a certain mechanic. Which may not even be a viable option on heroic mode.
So, by swapping the head you were not killing into the kill order 1 time will remove the stacks of frenzy that have built up on that head there by making tank healing easier and allowing the healers more time to heal/dispel the raid.
The head you aren't killing should be killed as either the 4th or 5th head. If killed 4th, then it will have only gained 3 stacks of frenzy, there by only granting it a 60% haste bonus. As the 5th head, it will be running at a 80% haste bonus.
Note: On our previous attempts of both GRGRGRG and BRBRGBR, we were usually dying after the 4th head. Although we did make it to the 6th head once.
The downside to this strategy is that you will have 1 head in the back performing the ability you were trying to avoid. But since it is only 1 head, it will happen much less frequently than the heads you've killed multiple times.
Hero?: 6th Head or 6th Rampage
Option 4 - Round Robin! - GRBGRBG, BRGBRGB, or others.
Tanks: 2
Healers: 2-3
Dps: 5-6
This option throws the previous ones to the wayside and simple cycles through the heads in a specific order.
The benefits to this particular option include the fact that no head will gain more than 1 stack of frenzy when following the same pattern over and over. As such tank healing will be fairly predictable except for any acid rain splash damage.
Another benefit is that you will not have too much of any one type of head ability going out by the time you reach the 7th head. As you will have killed no more than 2 of any type of head. While the 7th head will still hurt, but each head type won't be putting as much spam on the raid.
The downside is you have to deal with all 3 mechanics equally.
